New World Post Launch Review

New World is a spectacular game that provides you with a wide variety of options to play. It both caters to chill and hardcore players, PVE and PVP focused playthroughs, solo or coop with friends. It’s also buy-to-play which means no subscription is needed to play Amazon’s new MMO. How does it hold up? This is my New World post launch review:

Overview

Classes are non-existent in the game which means everyone can be what they can imagine: you can have a very straightforward DPS build, the other can have a different healer build, or you can simply build your character with what you feel. You can be a swordsman and healer at the same time or just be a pure barbarian where you can be at the front all the time. This is the beauty of New World where you are not tied to a specific class, you always have the freedom to choose what you want to be. In addition, you can always reset your attributes (for a price).

There are 3 factions in the game that choose from: the Syndicate, the Marauders, and the Covenant. Each faction can have its own territory and it must be defended and maintained. The members of the faction can do some faction quest or town quest. By doing a town quest, your faction can upgrade the town’s amenities which allows all players to perform (leveled) forging, cooking, smelting, and so on. There are other perks as well like the company that holds the settlement can earn taxes, and also dictate the amount of property taxes, or the fees for trading and crafting.

Company

The Company is what you would call a “guild” in other MMOs. You can only invite a player to your company if the other player is in your same faction. You have to be in the company to buy a territory, BUT the whole faction can use and reap its benefit.

Faction

The Faction would be the allegiance of your player and it’s worth noting that you cannot advance through the main storyline without a faction. A faction has to buy any unclaimed territory first. And then once it’s claimed, other factions can capture your fort, and prompt an invasion — or a hostile takeover of that settlement. You can change your faction once, however you can change it again after 120 days.

There are 3 factions in the game:

Marauder

A ruthless military force hell-bent on establishing a free nation where anyone with the strength to do so can prosper and profit.

Syndicate

A secretive organization of boundless guile and intellect in search of forbidden knowledge to usher in a new age of enlightenment.

Covenant

A divine order charged with cleansing the land of heretics and defilers so that its true holy nature and justice can be restored.

Freebies

If you are subscribed to Amazon Prime, the company is also giving out a freebie every two weeks. For the first week, Amazon gave out a Pirate Pack which includes the Swashbuckler Skin, Pirate Stance emote, and 5,000 Marks of Fortune. Marks is the premium currency for in-game cosmetic purchases.

There will be at least 6 more freebies until the year ends. Make sure to claim them before they expire.

How to access the free content in-game?

If you’ve claimed the content and linked your Steam account, your content will be available the next time you log in to New World. Items will be in your Inventory, which you may access by hitting TAB.

More info on using your items:

  • Apparel and Weapon skins can be applied by clicking on an applicable item in your character inventory (TAB) and selecting “Change Skin.”
  • Emotes can be accessed from the Emote menu by pressing the (P) key while in-game.
  • Company Crests can be applied when creating a company or updating company info (G)
  • Dyes can be applied by clicking on an applicable item in your character inventory (TAB) and selecting “Dye.”
  • Player titles can be applied within the Bio tab by going to Character menu (K).
  • Housing items can be accessed in Decorate mode (B) while inside your house.
  • Marks of Fortune will be automatically added to your in-game balance and can be used to purchase items from the in-game store.

Summary

New World is a fun game which is expected at first. There’s a play style that you can find in the game from a casual play, to a hardcore play. There are many activities in the game including resource gathering, PVE, and PVP. Coop is also found in the game through Companies, Territory wars, and dungeon raids. You don’t need any subscription to play the game, and you need is to buy a copy — whether standard version or the digital deluxe. There’s plenty of game to play, many friends to make, and numerous enemies to destroy in the New World.

Just like you, I play video games too. Sometimes, I play with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and some other editing software.
