New World Easy Anti-Cheat Error: here’s how to fix it

New World is having a problem for some people that they cannot log in or even open the game properly. This is in regards to the Easy Anti-Cheat error: “Steam must be running to play this game. Make sure you are logged into Steam, then try again.” This is the error that the players are having and makes them frustrated.

I have listed some steps below that would help fix the issue of the game.

You can reference all the troubleshooting guides that are listed on Easy Anti-Cheat’s website. Some of them may work perfectly but some may not work at all. But don’t you worry, the game is well maintained by its developers and you’ll get your fix in no time.

Here’s how to fix it:

Try one of these steps to fix the error that you’re having.

Step 1. Go to the Properties of New World from Steam, then locate Local Files, then click Verify integrity of game files…

Step 2. Go to your New World folder, then go to EasyAntiCheat folder, open the EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe and click Repair Service.

Step 3. Make sure that your anti-virus is not blocking the Easy Anti-Cheat program. This could create problems like this one and will restrict the game to connect to the servers.

New World is pretty much aware of the problem and has some recommendations on how to fix the issue as well on their forum.

Why does it happen?

The reason is simple, it’s because there’s an update that happened to the steam client that cause some files to change which leads to “Untrusted system file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamclient64.dll).

What to do next?

If the above steps didn’t work. Unfortunately, all you have to do is to let the developers push an actual fix to the game. As for me, I’ve tried different steps too just to fix this almost unfixable issue. Since we’ve fixed the issue, let’s go out there and have some fun in the New World!
