Deep Rock Galactic is an objective based co-op shooter where you play as a dwarven miner sent in space to mine precious minerals on alien cavern systems. It’s a 1-4 player coop where you play as a dwarven miner while assuming four different classes such as a Gunner, Engineer, Scout, and Driller. Each class has its specialty: Gunners have the firepower, Scouts are mobile, Engineers provide platform support, and Drillers drill fast to clear obstacles. Levels take place in generated “Caverns” where you explore biomes, meet objectives, and harvest minerals while surviving waves of deadly glyphids.
The missions are straightforward. New mission types are unlocked as the player progresses throughout the game, so expect more hazard pay for those missions of higher level difficulty. Let me this though: No matter what the mission is, the MOST adrenaline pumping part of the game is the extraction phase where you call the drop pod to haul out back to base.
The drop pod will show up anywhere in the map, but just enough time for everyone to make it back. This means that so there’s no point in going back to where you came from first before calling it in, because the drop pod will show up somewhere else within a 3-minute radius. For example, on a mining expedition, I tried traversing back to my origin and I laughed at my failure realizing that the drop pod showed up somewhere else.

I love the MULE and the meows. |
Deep Rock Galactic is an endless fray of adventure that is meant to be played with a friend. Tried it solo and I’ve felt isolated — well except for having BOSCO (the drone) and Molly (the MULE), my mining cart with legs. BOSCO is an all-purpose drone who will accompany and follow the player’s orders as long as there isn’t anyone else in the party; it digs, it mines, it illuminates, it slays filthy bugs *slaps BOSCO’s roof*. Molly is where players deposit their collected resources; it’s also cute. Most importantly, Molly will guide you back to the drop-pod once it’s summoned for everyone wrap-up. Once the mission is completed, the player earns XP and credits; they return to the Space Rig, a space station, where upgrades and loadouts can be purchased. After customizing your class, the next missions can be selected on the region map. There’s also a place on the Space Rig to honour their fallen comrades — or cringe on when they missed the drop pod.

Deep Rock Galactic is a fun shooter that can be played solo, but it’s best to be played in coop. I’ve just finished the on-site refinement missions and it was fun. Again, it would definitely be more fun if someone else is building the pipelines and completing the second objective. There’s something to do for someone else. Playing solo feels, truly disconnected and boring. I mean, You don’t play Borderlands solo unlike how Left 4 Dead can be played solo. Deep Rock Galactic is an emerging title for coop players to complete the objective, survive, and return for a drink together. If you want to try something new or need a break from the battle royale or deathmatches, play Deep Rock Galactic.
