I thought I would post this immediately after seeing many fellow Switch users complain about the version 20 update. The update changed the HOME screen and implemented the virtual game cards. And the addition of virtual game cards radically changed loading a digital game copy while having multiple Switch consoles. That is users now need to load up their digital game card. Unlike the old way of simply booting your game as long as the other console isn’t playing it.

There is a new option in the User Settings. And it’s understandable why some players are frustrated. To revert to the old online authentication– i.e. booting your digital game copy without the virtual game card:
- Connect to the Internet.
- Then click your profile icon on the upper right of the HOME screen.
- Go to User Settings
- Select Online License Settings
- Turn this to ON. This will be off by default.
You don’t have to turn ON the Online License Settings to the rest of your consoles. As this option pertains to your Nintendo account.
Players celebrated the new update. And then they wanted to ditch the update. Because the virtual game card update tweaked the previous online authentication. I keep multiple Switch consoles. And I thought it was a stupid update when I had LOAD the virtual game card first; and then link the third Switch; yet sometimes the pairing doesn’t work.
The version 20.0 update was introduced as Virtual Game Cards were also introduced for the Switch 2. And the Switch 2 will be released on June 6.
