How to turn off the Hip Lantern in Palworld

It’s something that I just noticed that you can toggle the Hip Lantern to three modes: always on, auto, or off. Also, I don’t remember seeing the Key Items tab beside the Inventory before.

I’m playing Palworld version 0.6, the Tides of Terraria major update. And I’ve decided to start a new playthrough. But I noticed that they added the text on the Hip Lantern tooltip saying, “You can also switch its lighting mode to keep it on at all times.” But I was interested to find out how to turn it off.

How to toggle your Hip Lantern in Palworld:

Hit [Tab] to open player your inventory.
Then select the Key Items tab.
Finally, right click the Hip Lantern to toggle between the three modes. Its thumbnail will be dark indicating when it is off.

Open up your Player Inventory. Default key is [Tab]
Right click the thumbnail to cycle through the lighting modes.
The Hip Lantern is off once the thumbnail is dark.
Hip Lantern is turned off. There’s a campfire outside.
My goodness I didn’t realize how dark these twin bases were!

The Hip Lantern serves as a primary light source when exploring Palworld at night. It’s also a permanent item. But sometimes I find the Hip Lantern’s orby light distracting or unappealing. And there are times when the night’s darkness is useful too such as spotting or double checking an effigy. Or if I just want to idle and gaze at the night sky. In addition, some players also wanted to turn it off; such as Palworld mods to turn off the Hip Lantern or change its light.

I wanted to post this info on how to turn off the Hip Lantern’s light for the algorithm and the index as apparently it hasn’t been shared yet. It’s funny. Anyway, I’m still working on a new article about Palworld version 0.6. about my thoughts on the changes. Palworld is currently on discount because of the Steam Summer Sale 2025.
