Throne and Liberty made its global release on October 1 and there were a few things that made me sad. Yes, they’re things that have to do with the game but let me explain.
1. Sad that I’m limited to two characters per account on Throne and Liberty
It’s a sad day to discover that I cannot make any more beautiful people. Then the character makeover tickets cost 250 lucent (about $7). You cannot change how your character looks once you start the game without spending money. And not knowing when they will eventually increase the max slot is a pain. If I somehow messed up my first character, I would either choose to use my last slot or delete my previous character. But deleting a previous character could fumble my username– which I highly value.
I can understand that this restricts creating too many alts. But there is equally a large amount of unrestricted character classes and skills in Throne and Liberty. Character appearance aside, once you commit on choosing which weapon and gear to upgrade (hence committing to your class), it feels like a waste to revamp the current character with a different build.
It would be much easier to have more slots available. Three would suffice, but not two. What if I spent my growth toward DPS but then discovered that a healer class is in demand? At least with 3 roster slots, you can plan for a DPS class, a Support class, and a Tank class.
2. Sad that I could not create my own Calanthia in Throne and Liberty
Calanthia’s character design is simple. But she’s beautiful. I know that she’s supposed to be a unique character since she is currently serving as one of the antagonists. But I immediately decided to do another character which resembles her. However her simple long and silken hairdo does not exist on the character creation. There were a few long hair styles and I believe that there was one with the bangs. But there was nothing similar that closely resembled her straight long hair. My day was disappointed and I am immensely ruined. They could have brought more hairstyles. Though I smell premium hairstyles in the future.
Hey… did you notice that the three AGS MMOs have powerful female antagonists?
3. Excited for InZoi but remembered the sadness from other games
Totally off-topic, but if InZOI will do a similar character creation as Throne and Liberty, it will be a joyful day. TL is running on Unreal Engine 4 and inZOI is supposedly being developed on Unreal Engine 5. Throne and Liberty’s character creation had given me a burst of inspiration. Not only the character creation is amazing, the world in Throne and Liberty is beautiful. Then I remembered point number one again. As well as remembering the sad state of The Sims 4, and that Life By You is cancelled.
4. Amusingly sad that the bots are already here on Throne and Liberty
I played during the Early Access and I found it amusing that the bots have already appeared in the game. We expected the bots. And the irony is I’m not surprised.
I wonder if it’s possible to create a simulated single-player game that performs like an MMO and populated by bots.
Warning: Spoiler Below after the images.
Warning: Spoiler Below!
The final point may contain a spoiler to new players.
5. Grieving that my best Amitoi is gone!
An Amitoi named, Helpie greets you on the prologue. She’s a cute, friendly and highly animated Amitoi. And this adorable plushie helps you on your adventure from Kastleton giving you advice but definitely NOT in a nagging way. She makes random remarks how she hates the water when you take dip swimming. Or she fills her face with funny cartoonish emotes. Helpie was a welcome company and it didn’t feel corny at all.
The game mechanic of sending out Amitois on expeditions to find materials will unlock in the Main Story Quest. And I thought, “Yeah, Helpie will be the base Amitoi.” Cool, basically Helpie is shaping up to be my first Amitoi. And we will venture together or could switch her out with another Amitoi later on.
OH, BOY. I WAS WRONG.
And it felt SO wrong!
A cutscene comes in. My character and Helpie looks over the horizon at the direction toward Whisperion. Then Helpie starts to fade; my character embraces her. Suddenly she disappeared!
I did what you wanted me to do, Throne and Liberty. For two hours, I did what you asked me. And you take Helpie away from me?! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!
I honestly felt like I would play less afterward. You can choose your Amitoi, so why not keep Helpie? Is it because you’d have to program lines for her in the MSQ? Well, you could have pursued that game design from the start! Or you could just simply keep Helpie in my roster!
Helpie returned home. Two hours in and this is the saddest thing.
Dammit, it’s not funny!
PS: I’m keeping a low-level alt so I can be with Helpie – idc.
