I’ve got to be honest: the leaked Sims: Town Stories does not look good. And the Google Play URL is no longer available (at least in Canada). Is there demand for another free Sims mobile? Probably not. But I know a paid full Sims game for the mobile will work. It’s ironic.
Start of my rant here
Let’s be clear: A Sims game on the mobile platform is a great idea. But the micro-transactions ruin it. Why not make a paid and full game already?
But maybe I’m wishing too much for a Sims exclusive mobile game. But of course a Sims mobile game not having microtransactions is like having Mac and Cheese without mac or cheese. Why does Sims need microtransactions? Because EA loves money. Yet it is possible to make money and a well loved full game. That is: how about creating a full and exclusive paid Sims game for the mobile platform? No microtransactions but add expansion packs on your mobile game. Imagine it’s the year 2000 but mobile gaming is the current frontier. That’s how The Sims became successful anyway.
At this point it feels like it’s just greed to implement microtransactions. I get the need to fund maintenance, but how large is the maintenance for a singleplayer mobile game? The scale should be typically small. Sims 1 and 2 became super successful without the bite sized DLCs. Because you had the chance for a full game back then. Just imagine putting this new game on a mobile platform.
End of rant
The Sims: Town Stories was leaked as both a town and home builder. You will meet familiar Sims NPCs like Bella Goth and Bob Pancakes. However, the game feels like an outdated and a redundant concept for its other Sim siblings on mobile. Sims: Town Stories feels similar to MySims where you’re tasked to “build a town and decorate the interiors”. And then insert the possible microtransactions.

The graphics look underwhelming. You’ll be time gated on energy. And then there are two type of currencies.
The Sims: Town Stories is another spin-off to the Sims franchise. And The Sims Lab is developing this game. The Sims Freeplay and The Sims Mobile are other spin-off mobile titles. They are all free but monetized through microtransactions. Since Sims: Town Stories was yanked after the leak, it’s likely that the game is back to the drawing board. There’s this growing feeling that Sims: Town Stories is not ripe yet. Here’s an idea, how about bringing back a revamped Sims Social?
