Imagine waking up in the morning, and knowing that no one is going to be angry with you all day. Also imagine knowing that you will not get hurt or sick. In fact, you will experience pleasant bodily life all day, surrounded by people that only love you. All your needs are provided for, and there is nothing that you have to do. You have no fear of death. Welcome to life after the resurrection of the righteous.
Death lives in our subconscious. We don’t think about it all the time, and some of us don’t think about it very much at all. But every time we check both ways before we pull out onto the road, death is there. Every time we worry that we won’t be able to get a job, death is there. Every time we lock our doors at night, death is there.
At the resurrection, death will end forever. It will no longer be possible for those in Christ to die. God won’t allow it, so it will be as good as a physical law. Death will be impossible.
God will provide for all needs forever. Those in Christ won’t get hungry or thirsty, because they will have food and drink. They won’t get hurt, because God will keep them from all harm. They won’t grow weak and frail with age, because God will sustain them. They won’t get bored, because God will be with them, and they will grow in love for him and each other as they play, create, sing, compete, and feast.
This is the future that God has in mind for those in Christ. And it will take place, not on some distant ethereal plane, but here on this planet. The man who is God will set his five-toed feet on the soil of Earth once again and he will rule it forever and ever, surrounded by his people whom he has raised from death and sin.
